Getting To Know Mary Kay Ash
In order to truly understand what it means to begin an opportunity as a Mary Kay beauty consultant, one would have to learn about the mission of the company and its origins, which starts with the story of Mary Kay Ash’s struggle and purpose behind creating the company.
In the 1960s, Mary Kay Ash was in a situation that was unfortunately commonplace at the time, where after working for 25 years in the direct selling business, she resigned her position as a national training director while witnessing yet another man she trained being promoted above her, earning twice her salary.
After resigning her position, Mary Kay got to work on writing a book that would help other women succeed in gaining opportunities that she herself was denied. After getting started with the book, Mary Kay came to the realization that by writing this book, she was creating a foundation for a whole new opportunity, where women could have the space to develop their talents and achieve success under their own terms.
This realization led to the creation of the Mary Kay company, which came to be in 1963, when Mary Kay took her $5,000 in savings and and created Beauty by Mary Kay. This company began with the focus on a dedication to making life more beautiful for women. Mary Kay was not focused on competition, but on the Golden Rule and on praising people to success. As Mary Kay always said, it was a company “with heart.”
The focus of the company and Mary Kay Ash’s values has helped it grow to where it is today. Presently, Mary Kay Ash’s vision and her courage has continued to give women the chance to achieve their potential and make their dreams a reality. Today, there are more than 3 million Independent Beauty Consultants in more that 35 markets worldwide. While, Mary Kay Inc. and the Mary Kay Foundation carry out the legacy of Mary Kay Ash, encouraging women from all over the world.
